Some of my fav. fabrics :)

They're not HTF, but that's ok w/me! I got these from another sewingmama who was destashing...I loved them the moment I saw them and hadn't happened upon them for sale until hers! I knew a tunic and legging set were in order for the coordinating fabrics!

And my practice pair of leggings (I redrafted an Otto pattern and wanted to test in on some not-so-special fabric)

She loves the fabric of these...it's for valentine's day, but I figured there was plenty for these leggings too. Closeup of the fabric:

I'm getting there on her fall/winter wardrobe! I have one planned dress left...then a few pairs of leggings once I get my Jalie/kwiksew patterns from the coop. A holiday dress, but I'll probably leave off on that until closer to then... She is planning on being Mulan for halloween, so we shall see how that comes together!

Thanks for stopping by :D

Farmers Market at the Farm!

I got this line of fabric (Farmers Market by Sandi Henderson) from a fabric coop...I'd been waiting for it FOR-EVAH!! I love it, it looks awesome and is perfect for fall :D Mom says it looks like the soybean field...which is a good thing :) This was my first go at a redondo and it wasn't at all as bad as I'd feared...went together pretty quickly, though the hem takes quite a bit of time! Just about 5 yards of hemline in this baby!! Sorry the vertical pics are on the small side...

All laid out, so you can see the full radius on this thing!:

My lovely tag!

And a close-up of the hem...I used picot edged elastic to finish...I thought about a rolled hem, but my rolled hem foot doesn't work so well with wovens at it would have been a bigger pain to fool around with that than it was to attach the edging (plus, this gives the hem a little weight):

We had our first apple treat last night!! Apple dumplings...they were good! A bit rich we all agreed, but I'd definitely try the recipe again-cutting down the butter/sugar/dew mixture by 1/2.

Ahh...I love fall :D Hope it's a long one!

Tees for J

Most of you will find these funny :) They were quick and easy and not meant to last more than, what...less than 2 mos. So they're quite juvie-looking, but that's ok with us :D

Do you know how many people have no idea what lemmings are??? I thought it was common knowledge...like pacman, yk?
And lastly, a tee I whipped up the other night...the fabrics are from Target...most people shop there for clothes and other goods...I troll the bedding aisle for clearance fabric, lol. These are from those clearanced college 08 jersey sheet sets...lots and lots of fabric in those things! I need to add length to the sleeves on this pattern...and still debating if I'll add another inch to the shirt as well. Great pattern though otherwise...now I need to learn screenprinting...or silk screening-whatever it's called.

Fun, fun :) J's enjoying himself at work/school/the grocery store, etc. Lol

Flap Happy Otto and a Bag

Sewed this up yesterday- such fun fabrics! They came in a FRB scrap box from Crybaby's...I love coordinates :D

And here is a gift for one of mom's daycare girlies...she's 10 or 11 and I just won't mention how late this thing is :P I have a good excuse! Several in fact! Oh well...it's done and I'm happy to have it that way! I love doing gifts for people...but have decided I'm not so much on doing gifts for other people's people, lol :)
The kitty picture is her kitty...J photoshopped it awhile back (the phrase says "A cat is a puzzle for which there is no solution")...it's printed on printer fabric and I added detail with black fabric paint freehanding it. I forgot to take a pic of the cute kitty face I'd painted on the inside under the flap...whaddya do.

Random things

Hope this solves the horizontal pic problem!

Two adorable pics of Emily in her new hat and matching shoes from Aunt Lyzzy :D They're so cute and will go quite well with her things for fall (we're all about the creams and browns here for her):

Aaand: Emily is loving having a penpal<3. It's so cute watching her tear into her letters...this is what she got yesterday (Ina sewed it and her mom helped)

She was so happy! It's flannel and nice and soft! Can you tell she was excited?? She whipped off one of her old pillowcases (with great disdain for it mind you) and put her new one on and promptly laid down, hugging it. She now puts the 'other pillow' on the foot of her bed...well away from her new one (laughing here!).

Alrighty, off to get something done today!

Hmm.well the first one was solved, don't know why the other two aren't showing up resized. Grrr...doing it manually now- sorry if pics look squashed or stretched!

Fall Sewing!

I'm so proud of myself for dreaming up/buying and EXECUTING my plans! (sorry for yelling there...it's just, well, that last part doesn't always happen. Lol :D)

I'll spare you the details (drafting/patterns used/links to sites etc). If you have a question or need to know something, ask away!

Lots of pics ahead (is that fair warning?):

On the table this week? Political tees (mostly for J...he'll have lotsa fun with them over the next two months, lol). Finishing up a bag (finally) for mom for a daycare gift...then starting on a redondo for Emily. Hope it works out alright, I hear they can be a pain!

Hmm, don't know why my horizontal pics are cutting off...well I know why but I'm not about to reload and resize, so I made the best for now. Hopefully we'll get it figured out for the next round. Grr.

Not much wisdom left...

Teeth that is. In fact, they're all gone. The only trace left are huge crater-holes where they stood...like empty in-ground pools. Ugh- won't those be fun for a few months!

All went well, I came out of the surgery like a drunken sailor...I remember being put in a chair and trying to stay awake to hear them give instructions to J afterward...then being wobbled out to the car by the nurse. I slept quite a bit then...even my blogs and sewingmamas couldn't keep me awake! Shocking, I know. The bleeding took awhile to stop, presumably b/c I couldn't keep myself awake to chomp down on the guaze. But stop it did and I was able then to eat a bit of applesauce and take my meds. Hopefully I'll lose another few lbs though with my limited eating today and over the next few days :D There's a bright side to everything, isn't there?!

Emily was quite worried...you all know how she loves to fuss over people. Fixing blankets, petting and brushing and fluffing pillows and giving hugs that accidentally jar your mouth and knock your guaze around, lol! She did well though, was such a sweetie. Didn't like leaving Mama, but went with J and he was able to keep her occupied in the office 'til she went to Nana and Papa's for the evening. Lucky too, b/c I slept another couple of hours!

I was able to get the hood sewn onto one my shirts tonight...I'm hoping to get some elastic in the sleeves and start the binding for the necks...then it's hemming. I probably won't get all that done tonight though, but it's good to start and keep my mind off my teeth. Hoping I'll have those done tomorrow and will get some pics done Sun, including the fall cord. stuff of E's that people have been asking for. I'm coming, I'm coming! :)

On a totally different note, I wanted to respond to a posting I read not long ago from my good friend Thom:

There is a world of difference between antagonism and debate. Many an issue could have been solved in our political realm if men were given to good discourse and not partisan inflammatory posturing. Is sensationalism really comparable to debate? One is known for solving problems while the other is known to cause them.

Debate and problem solving takes time...could this be the reason why politicians are bogged down these days fighting themselves, opponents, the media sensationalism and the world with no progress to show for it? These principles are true in marriage and hold true in the political realm as well. Think of these tactics...how great would a union of two persons be if antagonism and sensationalism were the forces of debate? How much more is it then, in the larger sphere? Where you haven't the assurance of respect, where you haven't the assurance you're case will be tried?

The great debators and thinkers of our day are brushed away because they 'take too long' and we haven't the time in our 10min segments on television, or our 3 paragraphs in the newspapers for history lessons! (ex. Ron Paul at the debates this year, and interviewed on Bill O'Reilly (where O'Reilly actually says this!, among other shows). There's plenty of interest mind you...but just 'no time'.

Time is making fools of us again. ~J.K. Rowling

Isn't it though?

Kumquat Panda Love!

I LUURVE this fabric! I knew Lyzzy would too...she's always been a teddy bear FREAK incase any of you DIDN'T know, lol (her old room at the farm still has the shelves all the way across the room at ceiling level stuffed with her bears...Mom hates dusting in there!). So I had to do a matchy set for my dd and Romi, my niece. Obviously she lives in DC so they'll never wear them together... but I still love doing the matchies. Lyzzy...you'll have to send me a pic of Romi in her new threads so I can post it here!

I also made a quick pair of panties too for dd...I forgot to lower the rise, so if I'm still 'eh' after a good wash I'll probably lop the top off an inch and add lace again to the waist...otherwise they fit great. (Love to the sewingmama's pattern section where I learned how to sew the hanna undies awhile back <3).

For those interested, I used the Olivia pattern for dd's top...I'd modded it into a raglan (see a few posts back), my own pattern from RTW for the panties, and Kwik sew 2433 for the baby set (the onesie i just cut off at the hip on the pattern)...the hat for dd I used the L baby hat and added 1" for length. Oh, and I'm so proud of myself...b/c I cut and sewed all this up in one evening...save for E's hat which I did the next evening after trying Romi's on her for size. :D
Aand a few pics of E's hair the other day...it's finally thick enough to be able to do these sorts of things: (yay!)
